Now that summer has arrived, many Indiana homeowners are mowing their lawns each and every week. While many of us already know how to mow and care for our turf so it grows hardy and strong, we may not be aware of a few things that can actually harm our lawn. At JPJ Landscaping LLC, we want to arm you with the knowledge you need to maintain a beautiful and flourishing lawn. We recommend avoiding the four mistakes below when you mow your yard this summer.
Mowing your lawn in a beautiful pattern provides remarkable curb appeal for your Westfield area lawn. The problem arises when you mow in the same pattern each time you get the lawn mower out of the shed or garage. Mowing in the same direction will wear down the turf, preventing it from growing thick and healthy.
There is nothing worse than cutting your lawn with dull, blunted blades. Your dull blades will tear the grass rather than cut it smooth and straight. When torn by your lawn mower, your yard becomes more susceptible to disease and healthy growth is prevented. Sharp blades will provide a precise trim as well as prevent any damage to your mower.
You may be surprised to hear that it is possible to cut your grass too short. Cutting your grass shorter than it needs to be will not allow it to grow thick and robust, and will also place too much stress on your lawn. We recommend setting your mower so you only trim the top one-third of the grass blades.
Many new lawn mowers include a handy bag for cleaning up all the lawn clippings as you cut your grass. While this is certainly convenient, it’s not the best practice for your lawn. Mulching the clippings, rather than bagging them, provides your turf with some much-needed nutrients.
If you’d rather not take on the hassle of mowing your lawn each week or you simply don’t have the time to care for it properly, contact the experts at JPJ Landscaping at (317) 519-3731. We will be more than happy to provide you with a free estimate. We also offer other lawn care services to the residents of Westfield, IN, such as landscaping, seasonal maintenance, and tree removal.
